Enjoy!

The Gift of Gifts

"The Gift of Gifts"
Valley of Vision

O source of all good,
What shall I render to you for the gift of gifts,
your own dear Son?

Herein is wonder of wonders:
he came below to raise me above,
was born like me that I might become like him.

Herein is love;
when I cannot rise to him he draws near on wings of grace,
to raise me to himself.

Herein is power;
when Deity and humanity were infinitely apart,
he united them in indissoluble unity,
the uncreate and the created.

Herein is wisdom;
when I was undone, with no will to return to him,
and no intellect to devise recovery,
he came, God-incarnate, to save me to the uttermost,
as man to die my death,
to shed satisfying blood on my behalf,
to work out a perfect righteousness for me!

O God, take me in spirit to the watchful shepherds,
and enlarge my mind!
Let me hear good tidings of great joy,
and hearing, believe, rejoice, praise, adore,
my conscience bathed in an ocean of repose,
my eyes uplifted to a reconciled Father!

Place me with ox, donkey, camel, goat,
to look with them upon my Redeemer’s face,
and in him account myself delivered from sin!

Let me with Simeon clasp the newborn child to my heart,
embrace him with undying faith,
exulting that he is mine and I am his!

In him you have given me so much that heaven can give no more.

Hot Cocoa and Frame

It's just another thing I love about Little Big Man.  He's read through Chosen by God twice. Holiness by Ryle is one of his favorite books, and the first genre of books finished on his reading list was theology/Christian living.

So last week during the big snowfall, he exits the kitchen after lifting up his cocoa in one hand and Frame's Systematic theology in the other and says with a big grin, "Aah, Frame and cocoa!"

I wish I could have gotten a picture of the expression on his face!

"Therefore, theology is not just an interest or hobby that we can add to our list of favorite activities and diversions. It pertains to the whole of our lives, and must shape and inform our thoughts and activities in every sphere of our existence."

Winter White and Black Bean Chili

Here are the last pictures of our recent snow.  Now we're looking at lots of mud. :)

Of course, soup is perfect way to celebrate a snowy day, so I tried another recipe from my wonderful Gooseberry cookbook.  (Michele, I can't thank you enough for this!!)
This recipe is super-easy, super-fast, and some tell me, super-good! ('cause you know I wasn't eating it. :))

Black Bean Chili

1 t. oil
2 onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced (I used the minced garlic)
4.5 ounce can diced green chiles, drained
2 t. chili powder
1 t. ground cumin
1 t. dried oregano
14-1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 c. water
2 (15 oz.) cans black beans, drained

Heat oil in a skillet; add onion and garlic and saute until tender.  Stir in chiles and remaining ingredients except beans; bring to a boil over medium heat.  Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes.  Stir in beans; heat thoroughly.  Makes 7 cups.

Love,

Mirthful Monday~Ever Feel Like This?

Ever feel like this? As if life has knocked you
flat on your face and you can't do a thing
about it? If so, do yourself a favor and...

go talk to someone else about your troubles.
I haven't an ounce of sympathy for you.

Drifting

People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated.
