Jake. Our resident hit man, taking care of unruly trash cans at every turn. He had a birthday...in June...um, that would be over two months ago.
He does crazy things like taking self-portraits with my camera. Thankfully, he's not the type to lament in his autobiography how lame it was that I took over two months to post his birthday photos. It was a significant birthday, too. The big 15.
The Hunt. Scavenger Hunt that is.
When my Beloved celebrated a milestone of a birthday, I decided to make it special with a scavenger hunt. Ink loved the idea so much he wanted one for his 15th birthday. So now, the family tradition is that on your 15th birthday, we play a guessing game and enjoy riding around in our van together for several hours.:)
He's Cap'n's favorite guy. He's a kid at heart, and his playfulness is a welcome trait in a house with so many Littles. He's going to make a fantastic Daddy.
He likes the simpler things in life. Like a good hat. A good book. An action-packed movie. And mega bags of Sour Patch Kids candy. I have a feeling he might add cigars to that list of simple things one day. The hat just makes me think so, and his love for Spurgeon.
He never cared for the piano, thwarting my ideal that all of our children would learn piano first. Instead, he's a guitar-man. And we love to hear him play.
He's got a southern man's taste for fried foods, sweet tea, and apple anything. He thinks I know how to cook. And bread? Oh yes. He inherited my bread-loving genes.
He loves the outdoors and throwing knives and tossing footballs.
He even passed the Dollar Tree test, managing to buy all his siblings a gift within the allotted time on his scavenger hunt.
Thank you for your patience, my son. I have no excuse for not having done this post in a timely manner. You have often forgiven me for greater offenses, and for that, I am deeply grateful. We thank God for the pleasure and joy you bring to our family. May God Himself always be your greatest joy, and may you love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength all the days of your life.
We love you.
Love,
Mommy for All

I love the scavenger hunt idea - brilliant!
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) birthday to him.
I also love the scavenger hunt idea! I may have to try that with one of my girls. I think she would enjoy it. I love the pictures, but especially the last one of poor Lil' Capn' sleeping, missing out on all the fun. lol
ReplyDeleteTrisha,
ReplyDeleteSounds like Jake and all the fam had a wonderful time enjoying him and his birthday. Happy Belated bday to Jake!!! It is lovely to read about how you show the joy of Christ throughout your home - intentional, personal sacrificial love - they blessings obviously outweigh the work.
Grace, Peace and Joy to you particularly this next week as you await and usher in the newest Poff's landing.
Love to you,
Jojo
Happy Birthday to him! Wonderful pictures! Okay, I'll have to admit I love the "real life" background of the second and last pic....the first with you in the background(?) cooking with a child on your hip and then the last one with little man fast asleep! That's REAL life! Also, it's so precious to see the relationship between the "bigs" hanging and the "littles!"
ReplyDeleteLove this post my friend. What a sweet tribute to a very sweet sounding guy. Blessings upon blessings these treasures are...God is Good! Happy belated Birthday to your 15 year old. I think it's fun that our first two are the same age...Austin and Calvin both had their birthdays in April ~ 17 and 15 respectively. :)
ReplyDeleteLove to you!
Camille
Happy belated to Jake! It looks like he enjoyed himself quite a bit! He is the poser ;) Isn't it wonderful to have someone who doesn't take everything all so seriously?
ReplyDelete@Ashleigh: Yes, I'm always asking people: "Why so serious?" :)
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments!
Love the post and all the pictures. Jake is a fun guy to be around. I know Jake had a great birthday. Looks like
ReplyDeleteCap'n can sleep through anything. Sure do miss being with all the Poffs.
Love and Prayers to each of you.

ReplyDeleteAh, that tribute to your son was worth the wait! ...and for the record, our youngest son gave his Dad a Justin Bieber card for Father's Day and my husband gave our son one for his birthday in July.
