The winds are raging outside, and I confess I have to work at thanking God for them. Trash cans blowing to another county, roof tiles stripped away, and the occasional lost child if you let her outside...
The Wind
by Robert Louis Stevenson
I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass
Oh wind, a blowing all day long,
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!
I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all
Oh wind, a blowing all day long!
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!
O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass
Oh wind, a blowing all day long,
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!
I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all
Oh wind, a blowing all day long!
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!
O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
When Mountain Man and I first visited New Mexico for his job interview, it was during this windy season. I had never seen such winds before, and though the wind made an impression, I wasn't impressed. Forget Chinese water torture...just tie me to a chair and make me sit out in a New Mexico wind. But since we should give thanks in all things, here are some reasons to be thankful for this invisible but sometimes rude visitor.
Scribe and I are headed out, a can of hairspray later (for me, not him), to get his state I.D. I can't believe he'll be old enough to drive in just a couple weeks, and we haven't even started the path to this milestone. BUT, he will be enjoying, God willing, his first flight at the end of the month as he and Mountain Man attend the Ligonier conference. Not too shabby of a 16th birthday gift is it?
Oh, the love of a mother...to step out in these vicious winds. Is there any limit to what we'd do for our children?
Love,

I can't believe it's time for
ReplyDeleteScribe to get his driver's license.
Where did the time go? I don't
believe there is anything a mom
won't do for her children as long
as it's a good thing. I know Scribe
will enjoy his flight at the end
of the month.
HUGS,
memaw
Ooh, i know what you mean about the wind (especially losing someone to it!! lol!) The calves were 'floating' towards the truck today.. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! Congrats to Scribe. That is definitely a big step. I bet he is excited. :)
Y'all take care and I hope y'all are getting better from that 'icky stuff'... ;) Much love, Sarah
Yes, it's time Mom, but he hasn't even gotten his permit, yet. The I.D. card was just for flying. You're right about a Mom doing whatever she must for her children...I was being a bit funny. :) Love you!
ReplyDeleteSarah,
Yes, we're all pretty much over everything. Mountain Man is still recovering from his inner ear stuff, but you don't hear coughing anymore! Yippee!! Love you, too!
Hey.. I can not believe Corey is going to be 16 years old!!!!! Hope he enjoys the trip with his Dad.. I sure hope Benjie is feeling better... hope that cough is gone and the ear is lots better... Love to all... Granma
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of wind here on the Delmarva peninsula, probably not near what you get there, but the wind, it can be disconcerting, and it always messes up my hair : ) It is very flat here. Congratulations to Mountain man!
