It's a fact that my favorite version is the King James.
It's a fact that my husband is the only one in our home who reads from the ESV.
It's a fact I love my
Cambridge Bible with the wide margins.
It's a fact that when my Dad died, I wanted his Bible.
It's a fact that when my children turn 17, they'll get their own Cambridge Bible.
It's a fact that these are
my favorite pens for marking in my Bible. And yes, I use pink.
It's a fact that I no longer think I need to make one Bible last forever. Like Elisabeth Elliot and Nancy Leigh DeMoss, I can mark up several Bibles in my lifetime. (Eight would be good. Then my children won't fight over them. :))
It's a fact that I'm terrible at memorizing Scripture, though I desire so much to be able to do it.
It's a fact that my children amaze me with their ability.
It's a fact that I wish I had memorized chapters of the Bible when I was a child.
It's a fact that I pray my children would hunger for the Word and that they wouldn't be able to imagine going through a day without feasting on Scripture.
It's a fact that I read too much of what men have to say about God's Word and not enough of God's Word itself.
It's a fact that God's Word is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
It's a fact that reading your Bible on a Kindle or an iPad or a phone will NEVER be the same as holding and reading and studying the REAL thing. Let us not take for granted our printed Bibles.
It's a fact that randomly reading from God's Word each day is fine for awhile, but afterwards one begins to feel lost and unsettled. Reading through the Bible, all of the Bible, is the best way to see the "big picture."
It's a fact that I want to know God's Word AND do what it says.
It's a fact that I pray that God would give me a deeper love for His Word. I know I don't love it enough.
What about you? What's your favorite version? Do you mark in your Bible? What's one thing you would change about your Bible reading habits?
With love,
It's a fact you can read other fascinating facts at
Seams Inspired!
My absolute favorite version is the Geneva. I own two of them. :D I also have a King James, but I find the Geneva much easier to understand, and I love the footnotes. I do write in the margins, but I still feel guilty about it since I'm not of a household of book-markers (given, my father does write in his books......I do think it's a good idea, but I'm still paranoid). I'm addicted to mechanical pencils. The write nice and tiny. :) I have read through the Bible once so far this year, and I read the Old Testament a second time--I need to start my ten-chapters-a-day plan again. *guilty look*
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is the King James. It's so easy to memorise and remember and so familiar to me because I grew up hearing it read from the day I was born. I don't write in Bibles - can't bring myself to do it!
ReplyDeleteI love the Bible--period!! I have
ReplyDeletemany versions but I guess my very
favorite is the Amplified. I use
it and my NKJV most. We bought a
Message Bible for our son Seth and
I like it too. I also read online
at times from BibleGateway but I
love the feel of a real Bible in
my hands. Such comfort and joy
found in one book!
Blessings~
I used to prefer the NIV but have since enjoyed the flow and style of the KJV more. I still have my NIV Study Bible and refer to it often but read daily from my KJV.
ReplyDeleteI would love to change how I read. I read from it every day but when I do, I am so often distracted that the the words are not as meaningful to me as they should be.
We love Pigma Pens!! Never dreamed of using them in my Bible ... :)
Lovely post with such beautiful truths!
ReplyDeleteYes, I, too, mark in my Bibles - I must admit though that the first time I was so very hesitant to do so. And, we've been reading through the Bible this year as a family. We'll finish the journey through at the end of the year. It is a blessing to read straight through and you do receive such a better view of how it all fits together.
Oh, and I so wish I had memorized larger chunks of the Bible as a child when memorizing was so much easier!
Great list of facts. My favorite version is the ESV. I hope to get a wide margin ESV for study one day.
ReplyDeleteMy bibles are all marked up!
Good morning! I love the New King James Version, but I had the amplified for years and years. I actually left it at a church I was visiting once (still don't know how I managed to do that) and that particular one was soo marked up with my personal notes etc., it was irreplaceable. I called and they looked and inquired etc, but I never did get it back. : ( I like to think that the Lord just wanted whoever found it, to have it. I am kind of hard on my Bibles. My present one looks pretty beat up right now. I am thinking of getting myself a LARGE print one. Have a wonderful day....HUGS
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of questions, Trisha. About me? Hmmm, let's skip that one! :-) Favorite version? My favorite is the KJV. I also like the NKJV and NIV and have just recently started to read the ESV. I don't actually own all these versions, but my online Biblos and You Version does. Mark in my Bible? I don't. It is a gift from my youngest. Besides, I've never felt 'comfortable' doing that. I have lose scrap papers stuck everywhere. What would I change? I would love to read it more in-depth and write down all that makes me gasp. However, I would have to either add an extra 24 hours to each day or resign myself to recluse monk status. :-) Love and hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the KJV and write in my Bible all the time, with no guilt attached. I always write the date and the speaker (if I heard it in a sermon) so I know whether it was something God revealed to me in my quiet time, or through someone preaching His Word. Then I can look back and see something special He taught me. My greatest regret was losing one of my marked-in Bibles (I left it on top of my car as I was loading up the kids, and drove off with it still there, but not there when I arrived home) but some special landmarks in there. I've always prayed that God used that Bible for some lost soul to find and maybe find Him.
ReplyDeleteI love the ESV and the KJV. The Young's literal is an interesting read, too. I need to either get a large print version or get new glasses.
ReplyDeleteI do not mark my Bible, but I have starting marking books. In pencil. :)
My prayer is that I would not just be a reader but a doer of the word.
I love your "love" for the word...it is so inspiring and beautiful!! I have many favorite versions...the one I read from the most, currently, is the NLT...but I love the Amplified. One of my favorite things to do is compare the versions so I purchased a comparative Bible with the KJV, NIV, Amplified and NKJ. Growing up I did memorize alot of scripture because it was required in the schools I attended. i cannot quote those passages now unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI do/will mark in my Bible...but I must say I don't do it often because I fear I might have an additional remark for the same passage later and it will already have a note!! Crazy I know :)
With much regret and guilt I must say I have never successfully read thru the Bible...though I've read the first few books of the Old and New testament NUMEROUS times as I've attempted to read thru. I've even tried different reading plans...but never successfully finished. So that's what I would change about my Bible reading habits...to successfully read thru the Bible. :) Amen!
I've been away so long and am only now learning about the "It's a Fact" series! I see Persis did one today, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful and I love all your "facts" my dear friend! My Monday fact is this: It's a fact. Trisha is adorable! LOL!
As always your post is a blessing!
My favorite version would be the NIV but we also use ESV. I do mark in my bible, I wish I was better at memorizing scripture, I'm terrible at it. I love the feel of a bible, no kindle for me :) Husband likes reading his on IPad
ReplyDeleteFavorite version: NKJV
ReplyDeleteMark in the sides: Yes, sides, top, bottom.
I love your idea of having 8 to pass on. Are you sure you won't need nine ;)
I like to underline just the verse number so I will know what I have read. Of course if something really stands out I'll underline the whole verse.
And no, I don't read nearly enough.
Constitution Girl,
ReplyDeleteWe like the Geneva, too, but haven't gotten in the habit of reading or memorizing from it. Good think you're Dad likes to write in books. :) Pencil is a good starter...Love you and thinking of you and praying for you!
Clara,
You're right about the KJV being easy to memorize. It's what I grew up using, too.
Sandy,
Yes, I love the feel of a real Bible in my hands, too. When I only had my Kindle available, it just wasn't the same.
Blossom,
Try out the pens first. It does depend on the thickness of your pages. But, I love how smoothly they underline. And as far as the distractions, I understand. That's why I have my time in the Word early in the morning. I hope you're enjoying your new home!!
Hi Dorie!
ReplyDeleteI know it's been a blessing to go through the Bible together as a family. I think we might do that in 2012. Yes, it's amazing what I missed by just staying in the New Testament.
Gregg,
How did I know your Bibles would be marked up? I wonder if there's a pastor who doesn't do that? :)
Debbie,
Oh, I know you missed that Bible! I'm sure it must have been a blessing to whoever found it.
Petra,
I understand about the resignation to monk status...I'd be there, too.
Stephanie,
Oh, you've known the pain of losing a Bible with lots of markings, too. Yes, at least there's the comfort of knowing it was a blessing to someone else. :)
Persis,
Good for you stepping out and using pencil in your books. :) I've never read Young's. I'll have to look at that.
Is that you, dear Sister-Cuz, leaving the anonymous remark? :) :)
Love those facts about you and your love of God's Word friend! Thank you for the inspiration! I love the NASB 77 just because I have the one now that I had before I even knew Wm so it is no full of prayers for my husband to be and our children and their births and buying our home, etc. So, I love the memories it contains. I am so enjoying reading through the whole Bible in a year this year for the first time-not reading through the Bible, but reading it through in a year. I am reading it to the children at breakfast. It has been a blessing to see the whole picture in a year. And, I like to write in the margins too, but I don't have any special pens-just the ones I find close.
ReplyDeleteLove ya!
Christina,
ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile. :) Love you!!
Maryann,
I'm with you. I just couldn't get used to reading my Bible on my Kindle. It's great to have, but I want the printed version in my hands. :)
Ashleigh,
I don't normally have favorites, but your comment is my favorite tonight. :) Can you guess why? I'd love to have to pass down nine Bibles.
Nicole,
What a wonderful way to start the day by reading the Word to your children. You're leaving a beautiful legacy. Love you!!
Wonderful post (as per usual) my friend! I *love* the KJV as well. I have a Thompson Chain Reference Bible. When our children graduate from High School, we plan to give them a similar Bible. (They do have their own copies of the Word of God, but not and expensive copy...thought I would explain). :) I do mark up my Bible...and I think it's wise to mark up more than one in your lifetime...but, I didn't think so until just now. Four would be about right for me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMuch Love to you!
Camille
Looks like I'm outnumbered with all these KJV fans. :)
ReplyDeleteThis one makes me smile, fried. Well, I guess all of them do. I changed from the NIV (which I grew up with) to the ESV about a year and a half ago. Love it! It's a wonderful study bible! KJV has historically been hard for me to understand (I'm slow that way), but I love the beauty of the translation. AND I JUST bought some of those Pigma pens for the first time last week! LOVE them!!! Working to develop my color code. Love you, friend!
ReplyDeleteHaha! fried = friend!
ReplyDeleteLOVED this Monday Facts post. So sorry for my tardiness in responding. I'm a terrible hostess this week...late to my own party. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI like my NIV, though DH is enjoying his new NASB. I write all over my Bible, and highlight in yellow. I was inspired by my Grandmother's Bible, which was written in every little space she could find. In fact, I never knew the color of the cover until after she went to heaven, because I never once saw it closed. ☺
My favorite writing in her Bible...

Happy Tuesday, sweet bloggy friend! Thanks for playing along with me. I'll have better hostess manners next week...pinky promise.☺
Thanks so much for your post. I
ReplyDeleteused the KJV for years. I found it
much easier to memorize scripture from the KJV. The last few yrs. I have been using the NEW AMERICAN
STANDARD BIBLE.
I grew up with the KJV, memorized the KJV, and still feel a great attachment to it because of that. But I like the NKJV now, too. And sometimes, I just need to read the other versions. It's so easy to slip over passages that are sooooooo familiar in the KJV, and the other versions help me to slow down and regrasp the great truths there. I loved reading your facts today. Thank you for that!
