Thankful Thursday~A Ticket Home and a Bandaid, Too

Two long awaited things have happened this week, and we're rejoicing!

First, my cousin, after almost two weeks in the hospital, arrived home last night. She'll get to feel the comfort of her own bed, delight in the hugs of her children, and savor everything that makes "home" home. I'm so excited for her!

Please continue to pray. She'll return to Utah to begin her stem cell transplant on September 18th. It's another long road, full of pain and loss and maybe even a hospital room. But it's also another journey replete with God's mercies.

The other big news is that after almost 4 months, my Mom's wound from her surgery will most likely just need a bandaid. :) This is a big deal, after months of major wound dressings and changes. Thank you for your continued prayers for strength as she reaches the finish line of at least one trial.

It doesn't end there. Below are many more proofs of God's lovingkindness.

I'm thankful for boys at work, and I LOVE this picture. Look at all the great "manly" stuff in it. The hole in the jeans from the running and playing that boys do. The injury on his arm, a given in a boy's life. And the watch. Telling time. Keeping time. And yet, so unaware of time. I think this one's going in a frame. It just brings me joy!

Reaches Up showed up with sander in hand as well as a can of paint and brushes. He tidied up our flower boxes. Now we just need to pull LOTS of weeds and add the flowers.

I'm thankful for a daughter who's learning her way around the kitchen. What a blessing it is to wake up and have her cook a delicious breakfast for everyone. She's mastered the Tater Pie as well as our basic frittata recipe.  Great job, Miss Emma!

I'm thankful for boys who surprise me with hugs and kisses, and yet, bring me snakes and lizards. And I'm thankful when the boys carry these critters right back out of the house. :)

Isn't he purty??

I'm thankful for sleeping babies. Not because it gives me a break. Rather, it's such a beautiful thing to behold. The peace. The calm. The soft breathing. You want to suspend time and just linger. Just linger near the sweetness.

Look at those eyelashes. :)

Finally, my heart has been especially heavy of late, and as I sat down to reflect on God's provision, I realized that we often misperceive the giving of thanks, as well as those who are doing the praising.

Perhaps we think that gratitude lists are born from perky people with perfect lives. How untrue!

When David would praise God for His mercies and provision, he was most often in trouble, enduring affliction. The thanksgiving was an act of the will, a choice to remember God's goodness, to declare what he knew to be true of His God, even though his circumstances were desperate.

When you're overwhelmed, go to the Rock that is higher than you are. Go to our God and ask for grace to see the mercies all around you. I promise you, they're there. Soon you'll find that even in the midst of the hurting, your lips and heart can't help but declare the praises of God.

With love,

  1. Now, what I want to know is why the boys always get the luxurious thick eyelashes, and their sisters get the blond ones?? :D Your little fellow is *so* cute. Makes a girl want to snatch him up and kiss him......

Ain't that the cutest little horned toad? I've never seen one live before. You'll have to send one over, I'd like to see how they taste.....

  2. So glad your cousin is home and your mom is healing. Please keep us posted as we continue to pray.

I amen your comment about gratitude from perky people with perfect lives. When you've tasted suffering and seen your sinfulness, you realize how much you owe God for absolutely everything.

  3. Often the times I find myself being able to see the blessings God has given me are during a trial-I think it is because when we are struggling-I know sometimes that is because I am more silent or because I am walking even closer to Him, clinging on to Him, crying out to Him, and it makes me see just how much I really have and should be instead just sitting in awe of Him and singing His praises. I am so excited to hear that you mom is finally on the mend. :) Also that your cousin is home for a bit to get refresh to fight this battle for a little while longer.
Analeigh woke up and cried out and I went in to lay with her a bit last night-I laid there as she fell back asleep just thinking those same things. She looked so sweet and so at peace and I was so thankful that God blessed us with her, she is such a wonderful addition to our family. I am so blessed.
Love you friend-hope that your spirit is lifted today the by God's many blessings in your life.
    Hugs
    Jill

  5. "Perhaps we think that gratitude lists are born from perky people with perfect lives. How untrue!" So true, Trisha! And can we give thanks to things that are neither perky nor perfect?

I rejoice that Michele is back home, and I'll continue to lift her in prayer.

Trisha, your photos are so full of...of....of! Help, I can't find the right word! And yes, that first pic needs to be framed!

    Love and hugs!

  7. What great pictures. I love pictures of everyday life, of boys and work, snakes and horny toads, of sleeping babies, food made by young hands, flowers and trees, and really anything in the beautiful Creation God has made. What a beautiful world we live in and what a joy to be able to capture the little moments to savor for a lifetime.
    Love,
    Marissa

  9. I love watching sleeping babes too... and even when they grow older (and no more babies have arrived), the older ones are still beautiful to watch. :)
Thankful hearts are few and far between in our world - thank you for sharing your thankful heart and by it, encouraging me to count my own blessings!
    Blessings to you, my friend.

  10. Hi Trisha!

It's been a while since I visited but I'm glad to hear these reports of good news regarding your cousin and mom.

And while I love all of these photos and the expressions of faith behind them I definitely favor the first one. You are right -- it is worthy to be framed!

And the picture of the snake -- well, that was just more than I could bear! : )

  11. Many great things to be thankful for there. Love boys and all their "snips and snails and puppy dogs' tails"!
Constitution Girl is right about the lashes. We notice that phenomenon in this family as well!

  12. I keep a gratitude book and have been thinking of posting. For me keeping a gratitude list is more of a reminder of what blessings I do have in my less than perfect life.
BTW Trisha, love the pictures of the little one, and I also like the one of your son and the torn jeans
Glad to hear things are going well with your mom, will keep your cousin in prayer
