Thankful Thursday~Our First Year With Our Pastor

This month we celebrate our first year of having a pastor for our small church. In the midst of many self-serving pastors who want big numbers and lots of glory for themselves, we're blessed to have a humble shepherd who teaches us the Word without compromise and cares for us most tenderly. We don't deserve him, and yet, God has graciously given him to us.

Why do we love our Pastor? Let us count just a few of the ways!

~He's a gift from God.

~He never rushes through prayer or a sermon.

~He provides pre-printed note-taking pages on cardstock, complete with pre-punched holes.

~He walks the extra mile for us. And drives it, too.

~He's passionate about shepherding God's people.

~He took on our tiny church when he could have easily gone elsewhere.

~He's supportive of homeschooling.

~He's real. Not virtual. Not indifferent to the members of the church. You can talk to him. Visit with him. Hug him. Call him. And he actually knows who you are.

~He greets us in his e-mails with “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
~He practices in his own home what he preaches.

~He loves his wife as Christ loves the church.

~He's diligent in preparing his sermons.

~He never tires of our questions.

~He's generous with his time and his talents.

~He's thoughtful and slow to speak, quick to listen, and slow to anger.

~He's faithful to the Word of God.

~He's available whenever we need him.

~He loves the Lord with his heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Wouldn't it be nice to let your pastor know how much you appreciate him?

With love,

  1. This is a blessing indeed. I have to agree with you about letting your pastors know how much you appreciate them. There have also been times when I will send an email to my pastor after a sermon that God may have used to speak to a particular area of my life. It's a way of encouraging him...we too love our pastor

  2. What a blessing! He looks like a wonderful pastor-you can see the character on Jesus in his eyes and smile too. I think when people have Jesus in them that He radiates out of them-there is just something about someone that has committed their life to the Lord and is living for Him daily-you can see that in them before you ever even speak a word to them. I think that is why unsaved people are attracted to saved people and don't understand why-is because when we are living for Him, our whole body, mind and spirit are His, He shines through us and who couldn't be attracted to Jesus?! Lovely post-I try as much as possible to let our pastor know how wonderful we think he is. I think it is really important to praise them when we get the chance because I am sure there are enough people who tell them everything they think they have done wrong.
    Hugs-Love you

  5. Your pastor sounds just like my
pastor!! We are both blessed. We
have known our pastor first as a
friend so we have had the blessing
of knowing him for over thirty
    years.
    Hugs~

  6. Isn't it the most wonderful blessing to have a pastor that is so darned REAL? A man of virtue and practicing as he preaches, YET, not above sin and failure..and so very clear about that..one anointed by God to lead a flock..and never wavering on his conviction to do so.

In our age of apostate preachers, it is MORE of a blessing than EVER to find one who is willing, and equipped to lead!

I, too, am so thankful for our pastor..I try to let him know regularly how our family appreciates him, as I know he is also under much criticism, I'm sure. Whenever you are preaching the Word, you will be!

    God Bless!

  8. You just described my pastor as well. I'm proud to say that I am married to him! Thank you for such a lovely post. I think there are a lot of pastors who do not get that kind of feedback from their parishioners. I sure hope he gets to see your post!

  10. What a nice post on Pastor Brainerd I feel so blessed that I
had the privilege of meeting him
last year at this time. Since I've
been back home, he has blest me
with his phone calls and especially
praying with me. Pray God leads him
to stay as your pastor for many
    years to come.
    HUGS,

  12. What a blessing to have such a pastor. What a blessing to know that such good shepherds are out there. And what a sweet way to let him know how much he's loved! Pastors get discouraged too. Let us not forget to thank them and to pray for them. Blessings, Trisha!
