I Can't Wait to Tell You What God Has Done!

"When we have received any special good thing from the Lord, it is well, according as we have opportunities, to tell others of it. When the woman who had lost one of her ten pieces of silver, found the missing portion of her money, she gathered her neighbors and her friends together, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost.'

We may do the same; we may tell friends and relations that we have received such -and-such a blessing, and that we trace it directly to the hand of God. Why have we not already done this? Is there a lurking unbelief as to whether it really came from God; or are we ashamed to own it before those who are perhaps accustomed to laugh at such things? Who knows so much of the marvellous works of God as His own people; if they be silent, how can we expect the world to see what He has done?

Let us not be ashamed to glorify God, by telling what we know and feel He has done; let us watch our opportunity to bring out distinctly the fact of His acting; let us feel delighted at having an opportunity, from our own experience, of telling what must turn to His praise; and them that honor God, God will honour in turn; if we be willing to talk of His deeds, He will give us enough to talk about."
~P.B. Powers as quoted in Spurgeon's Treasury of David Vol. 1, p. 114

  1. "Who knows so much of the marvellous works of God as His own people; if they be silent, how can we expect the world to see what He has done?" Amen! Let all things point to Him, since all things are from Him. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Hope you're having a joy-full Lord's Day!

    1. Yes, Petra, amen! He always leaves us with something to share that declares His glory. I hope your day has been joy-filled as well, my friend.

  2. Thank you for this. This is the God-glorifying opportunity of blogging, is it not? The sermon today partly discussed ambition (sons of Zebedee demanding honors of Jesus), and we were talking at lunch of the tension present in blogging as a Christian. Sometimes I ask myself if "upside-down blogging" is really even possible. This quote is perfectly timed to tell me that it is: "if we be willing to talk of His deeds, He will give us enough to talk about." Yes! Grace to you and yours today.

    1. How wonderful! Yes, this is what I'd want my blog to be known for...declaring His goodness and mercy. I'm never left wanting for something to share! Grace to you, too!

  3. God is good, and when don't proclaim it; the rocks cry out.
    Shame on me...
I have heard it often that the measure of our thankfulness is relative to the depth of our understanding of who God is.
    Great encouragement, Trisha,
May your day be filled with His Grace and Peace,
    Jojo

    1. Jojo,
Yes! I have been thinking of this much lately...regarding understanding who God is (as much as possible here on earth) and how it leaves us with a deeper gratitude, one that is not as easily shaken by changing circumstances. Our children and I are studying God's attributes, and just the little I've learned thus far has left me more in awe and more full of thanksgiving. What a humbling truth is His love for us. Hugs to you!
