It's always good to ask ourselves questions as part of our working out our salvation with fear and trembling and training ourselves unto Godliness. These are the questions our family is asking this year. Some questions stay the same year after year and some result from struggles we're currently having, be it in our relationships with one another or in how we're spending our time. Examining ourselves in this way is just one way to be intentional in our relationship with Christ and our relationships with each other.
There's a twist with our questions, too. We won't only be asking them of ourselves, but we'll be asking other family members to evaluate us in some of these areas. I might think I don't spend too much time on the computer, but if my five year old, when asked, "What does Mommy spend much of her time on?" says, "sitting at the computer," then I need to consider her perspective and make adjustments.
Here are the questions we're asking ourselves this year.
**What
family relationship do I need to work on this year? What are
practical ways to do this?
**How
can I better love my family?
**How
can I better love my church family?
**What
bad habit do I need to break? What good habit do I need to establish?
**What
is my Scripture verse for this year?
**What
is my biggest time waster, and what will I do about it?
**Who
will I thank for having encouraged me and sharpened me last year?
**What
besetting sin will I battle with prayer and by training myself in godliness? (Let me remember "dependent responsibility"--I'm responsible to do what God's called me to do and dependent on His grace to do it.) Who will I partner with to keep me accountable?
**What
new skill do I want to learn and/or what old skill do I want to improve
upon?
With love,
Trisha
Love this, Trisha. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI read you more on FB than I do here but I always enjoy popping in for sweet little baby pictures and great posts.
ReplyDeleteLove those dog ear slippers :-)
The beginning of the year has me thinking on many questions and lists of what I would like to do this year....always asking God what HE wants me to do and that I might pour myself out to Him.
Happy New Year~

Beautiful list. What a wonderful idea! Hmmmm...asking the children is humbling, isn't it? :) God is Good. And, children forgive so readily...what a great blessing!!

Those are very good questions, Mrs Poff. Thankyou for sharing them, I plan on answering them for myself over the course of this year.
ReplyDeleteVery good questions. We will look forward to their answers unravellng :-) Some of my thoughts have also been along these lines over the past week or so. May 2013 be a year of many blessings for you.
ReplyDeletePrinting these out for my own family's use. Great things to ask ourselves!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, sweet sisters in the LORD. You've given me hope that I'm not always talking to myself here. :)
