This past Sunday we had friends over for lunch, so Mountain Man grilled hamburgers for us. (Yes, the weather was beautiful enough to do that.:)) There were supposed to be 18 burgers in the package I bought from Costco. After grilling the first 14, Mountain Man wondered where the rest were. I insisted that was all that came in the package, and boy, did we get cheated!
Well, Monday morning I discovered the other four hamburgers...in the microwave. I was defrosting each batch briefly Sunday, after having thawed them in the refrigerator overnight. And, in that short time of getting the rest of the lunch together, I had completely forgotten the other hamburgers. Not even Mountain Man's comments triggered my memory! Such are the crazy things that happen to this highly distractable Mom! So, of course, those hamburgers made me think of this little story based on the popular children's book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.
"If You Give a Mom a Muffin"
If you give a mom a muffin,
She'll want a cup of coffee to go with it.
So, she'll pour herself some.
The coffee will get spilled by her three year old.
She'll wipe it up.
Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks.
She'll remember she has to do some laundry.
When she puts the laundry in the washer,
She'll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer.
Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan supper for tonight.
She will get out a pound of hamburger.
She'll look for her cookbook. (101 Things to Make with a Pound of Hamburger)
The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail.
She will see the phone bill which is due tomorrow.
She will look for the checkbook.
The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two year old.
She'll smell something funny.
She'll change the two year old.
While she is changing the two year old the phone will ring. (Of course!)
Her five year old will answer it and hang up.
She remembers that whe wants to phone a friend to come over for coffee on Friday.
Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup.
She will pour herself some.
And chances are,
If she has a cup of coffee,
Her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

Queen Mom, that's great. I laughed over it pretty hard because just that Sunday at your house, I'd read "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" to Boo! Ironic.....

Hilarious...I was laughing hard. The ending was very funny...probably what my mom, too, would logically deduct, knowing her children! :) Great post.

Yes, Camilla, the Moms know how tempting food left out can be for our sweet children. Of course, I would be drinking a cup of tea, and I would be looking for my missing SCONE! :)
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Queen Mom
Yes, Mama, everyone got a hamburger. We had just enough even though I was terribly forgetful. I love you and hope you'll be feeling better soon!

How Funny! I hope you didn't call the burger company before you found the "cheated-by-the-company-burgers"!
ReplyDeleteI had just read the poem the other day and I think it is funny...at this point in life anyway. Ask me after I have had a couple of kids and it will be a different funny:)
Love,
Rebecca
Isn't that funny, Rebecca? I didn't even think this time to protest at our being "cheated!" Good thing I didn't.:) It's great to hear from you!

Queen Mom
