"Many people see the Sabbath, or Lord's Day, as an infringement of their personal liberty--a day that God has taken from them instead of a gift that He has given to them for rest, worship, and celebration. The modern world, they argue, is too complex to set apart a whole day for rest and worship. There is too much that we need to do and too much that we want to do to give up one day in seven for God. We are just too busy."
~from Celebrating the Sabbath by Bruce Ray
Too True!! That is rather sad, but it is a humbling quote. :)
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wish that we celebrated the Sabbath the way people back then used to do it where there was no baking and you had to sit still. The only problem is that little ones would have a rather hard time doing it, and it doesn't sound like very enjoyable. I tend to think that if we are CELEBRATING the Sabbath, that we should be happy. :)

Exactly, Sarah! I remember reading about the Sabbath in the Little House books...they really didn't joyfully celebrate. They just went through the motions, and I don't think their hearts were in it at all. I know there is so much more to it than that, and I want the children to have beautiful memories of celebrating the Lord's Day.:)
ReplyDeleteLove you,

HAHA! I was thinking of the Little house on the prairie books when I said "how they did it in the old time." yes, people just didn't seem to ahve thier hearts into it. it is so sad. God has GIVEN us this day, and we choose to beleive that He has TAKEN it away and we are glum. :(
ReplyDeleteHopefully we can all be witnesses to those ones! :)
Love ya!
