We're sitting at the dinner table this evening, having just finished a delicious meal.:)
Mountain Man decides to read a couple of chapters from Penrod by Booth Tarkington. (ok....we have to use a dictionary to read this book!) After reading this passage...."It was a sign of pure ennui.", we hear....
"What's that (referring to ennui)?
Scribe, always surprising me, says, "Oh, that's a French word meaning boredom. I just read it in the book Betrayal." (a story about John Calvin...thank you Mrs. S.)
Then, Whistler says it....a question to delight any parent of an 8 year old.
"What's boredom?"

Whistler, you are a jewel. I think it's wonderful you don't get "bored".
ReplyDeleteThat's because you have all the little ones around. I wouldn't get bored either if I could spend some time with the Poffs. Miss you so much.
HUGS,
Memaw
Oh my goodness!!! That is priceless...I would love to be a fly on the wall to take all that in :)
ReplyDeleteMichele :)
Dear Poff Clan,
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Whistler. I had immediately picked up my dictionary to look up "ennui",before I finished reading your post. Thank you Scribe for your tremendous vocabulary! How great it is that Whistler does not know the meaning of boredom!
Love,
Aunt C

ReplyDeleteI have heard several of my younger grandchildren say "I'm bored". Next time I will have to ask them exactly what they mean when they complain about being "bored". I know I'm guilty every now and then complaining of being "bored". But as I think about it I believe I'm really "lonely" and not really bored.
ReplyDeleteI love you Poff Family,
Auntie Marian
THANK YOU so much for letting Sam visit. He had such a great time. We missed him so much or did we ? ha ha Love to all
