The spoils included a powder horn, walking stick, tomahawk, a gun sling, pistol cleaner, knives, sheepskin, cookware, and even trinkets for the girls.
Back at the fort, we forced ourselves to have tea and scones, read together, clean, and create. I would never describe myself as creative, and yet, I'm thankful for that God-given desire to make things.
We started first with the essential childhood ingredient....play dough. Don't you love this pink bubble gum color?
Here's our favorite inedible version.
(Because surely you've eaten the peanut butter kind. :))
2 c. flour
2 c. water
1 c. salt
2 T. veg. oil
1 T. cream of tartar
Mix together and cook over low heat. Remove from pan and knead on wax paper. This keeps for quite awhile when kept in a container.
We also indulged in our favorite scone recipe. My lovely Emma set out my grandmother's sugar bowl and creamer. I've been thinking of giving these away as I try to eliminate "stuff," but now I'm glad I haven't. They were an elegant touch to our table, and I loved my daughter's enthusiasm for using them.
We managed to fit in some laughter, too.
While many are well into their new school year, we're on break, preparing to start in October. I immersed myself in Binder Bliss and managed to get six done. Only three more to go! Little Clairesy saw the excitement of her siblings when I was done with their binders, and now she wants one, too.
Last, but definitely not least, I gave my calendar area a makeover.

This is my brain tacked to a wall.
Here's my new improved brain, and I LOVE IT! Those pockets are perfect for dry erase markers. So, I have a calendar in the upper left corner. I keep the week's recipes in the pocket to the right. In the middle section are the directions to my house (so the children have it if they ever need to explain it to someone...) as well as phone numbers. The large pocket is for anything outgoing, such as mail or papers to give to someone. The small pocket to the right holds the dry erase marker and two pens. Then there are four bottom folder areas. I use one for grocery sale papers, and the other three I'm still working on.
My cousin is responsible for telling me about this genius of an idea. You can read more about it at her Thirty One page. This wasn't cheap, but it was worth every cent, and even my sons are impressed with my new brain.
Ok, so surely one of these things qualifies me to link up with Petra's World of Work Wednesday.
I'm tired now.
With love,

It looks like you ladies had a wonderful time while your men were away. I just love your binders, and I love your new calendar area wall thingy! I think that would be very helpful for me as my brain is currently scattered about the house and not in one pretty spot ;)
ReplyDeleteAll of the binders are simply
ReplyDeletebeautiful as is your new tacked
to the wall brain. Enjoyed all
the darling pictures of the
girls most of all. Now I need
to make some scones and have a
cup of tea.
Have a blessed day.
What a bunch of cuties you have there. Great girl time!
ReplyDeleteYes we love playdough!! I need to make some too cause it's time to keep little hands busy during school :-)
Loved the little bowl and spoon~
Binders....so cute. I've done them in the past but haven't done them this year. The girls loved them.
Wow!! I like your new brain! Very organized and fashionable. Good work~

All of these qualify, my dearest Trisha. Not only that you made all those lovely binders, scones, play-dough, and that you've freshly organized your brain but that I could not find any fingerprints on your cabinet doors!! The work of your hands is awesome, and looking at those cute smiles, I'd say the work of your heart is too!
ReplyDeleteWhere are my manners? Thank you so much for linking up! Love and hugs!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the men had an awesome trip...that is truly a God blessing.
ReplyDeleteOh the play dough...we love it here, in fact it is on the table now...we will do this recipe today...haven't done it in years
You are very creative....I have to confess my poor home school children never had that advantage...I am more...get it done, throw it in the trash...now lets go play, explore, read or hit the car for sports...LOL
Have a wonderful year
I bow to your creativeness. ☺ Fabulous all around. The smiles are priceless. Thanks for the link to your organizer. I'm thinkin' I need one of those. Happy Wednesday! ☺
ReplyDeleteYour girls are so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes! Looks like you had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI love that: Your brain tacked to the wall! That is too funny, but oh so true for busy moms. I love the binders and the calendar station. And what a great idea to have directions in a pocket for the kids. I would have never thought of that and am definitely going to put it to use. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tea time! Love your new "brain"!
ReplyDeleteQualified? Girl, this is genius! I love that organizer, I'm going to follow the link, 'cause we could really use one! I'm a preschool teacher, and I made that recipe for playdough every week for about 5yrs when I worked at the daycare, it's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Trisha:

I have such wonderful memories of making pay dough with The Teen - we had so much fun. I can't wait until Jojo is old enough.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm jealous. Love the new wall calendar organizer. I will have to put that on my wish list!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you girls had fun and the binders are VERY cute. Good work crafty friend!

Ohhhh, your binders are fabulous! I'm a year behind on mine :-( The pics of your littles are so adorable. What lovely moments to capture.
ReplyDeleteI love it Trisha! And I must say that your grandma's china is beautiful and elegant!
ReplyDeleteLove your photographs, Trisha! And the binders and the "Brain"!!! How lovely!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love have things decorated and organized ready for the start of school! :)
Can I have a scone? ;)
I love the calendar holder idea-that is really cute. I need to try and make something like that. I am so glad that you had a great time with the girls. I own my grandma's china and it looks a lot like this pattern. I love it because it was hers. We have been fighting a stomach bug since Friday and are finally on the mend I think, hope and pray. The girls had it first and it was really slow moving for them-the boys, including my hubby got it last night and today but are starting to feel a bit better tonight I think. Thank you for your comment-your thoughts and prayers are what probably kept me sane these last few day. :) Love you-hope you have a blessed day tomorrow. Those scones looked yummy too.
