I ended up on Twitter when I wanted to join Pinterest (which I found to be a bit overwhelming). Then Ink followed, and then my Beloved, and now we're the Three Twitter Musketeers. Like anything, it has the potential to be a time waster. It's much easier to read what others are tweeting than to mop the floor or finish lesson plans or discipline that stubborn child. It requires, at least for me, a constant watching and guarding of my heart.
But, there are three things I love about Twitter so far:
1) A More Personal View: Several of my favorite bloggers are on Twitter, and it's wonderful to read snippets of everyday life. I've been able to pray for them, laugh with them, and just get to know them better. It's also nice to get a few doses of my Pastor's humor throughout the week and share articles of interest with family members. (Although I have been banned from following one family member on Twitter because she didn't like what I had to say...)
2) Private Messaging: Ink is one of the last 17 year olds on earth who doesn't have a phone. We see no need for it, but when he was going to Mexico, we were wondering how he could communicate with us, especially at the airport. With an old version of an iTouch, he's still able to send us private messages on Twitter. And I'm able to leave those notes wishing him a good morning or letting him know I'm praying God will bless him with sweet sleep.
3) Unexpected Blessings: Whether it's in the form of "I'm praying" or an encouraging word or a package sent across the miles, I'm grateful for the ways God has used others on Twitter to bless me. Just the other day I posted a link to a pink bowl that I loved. Alas, it was only available at IKEA, and we don't have one of those nearby. I mentioned that I'd be extremely grateful if anyone who lived near one wanted to pick me up that pink bowl and send it my way, not thinking anyone would really be able to do so. BUT a sweet gal, Tricia, who has never met me, went to IKEA that very weekend and had the bowl in the mail to me on Monday! I was floored at her kindness and in awe again how the body of Christ is drawn together to do even these kinds of things for each other. :) Thank you, Tricia!
Isn't it perty?
Yes, I'm lovin' Twitter so far for these reasons, but I'm very fickle when it comes to this kind of stuff. Tomorrow my account might be deleted and my blog gone, too. I just never know.
(I do know one of you is going to tell me my Twitter-lovin' reasons are why you you love Facebook, though.) :)
With love,
Trisha

Oh, how sweet of Tricia! What a wonderful blessing!
ReplyDeleteHow precious that friendships are forged in these ways and that the LORD brings HIS people into our lives through these means. I am so pleased that Tricia sent you that bowl...it's lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteAs for Facebook...I was on it (my sister lives far away, and that was what hooked me)...but, I deleted my account last summer. It's not my *thing*. Twitter...not joined up yet either...but, I know it would be fun to be friends with you there. :) As for the blog...please do not delete!!!! I would be so sad.
Love you!
Camille
oops...sorry! I was not logged in when I left that comment! :/

Well guess I will be that gal, haha. I do not Twitter as I do not work a cell phone very well...sigh. I only have one for emergency purposes, and thankfully it is barely used. I do have a car phone which hubby got me for mother's day, and it is REALLY nice. I am in my car a lot going back and forth mainly to mom's. A quick touch of a button and I am on the line. Facebook, I fought with everything in me. Again, just seems as if the younger generation especially lives in some kind of constant connection technically. Just doesn't seem right anymore. But when my kids FINALLY convinced me to give it a whirl I got an account. I am on once or twice a day and quickly scan through seeing if there is anything worth seeing. Surprisingly there almost ALWAYS is. I have connected with a couple of old high school friends, and read others inspiring and encouraging remarks once in a while. But it is a quick and easy way for my daughter especially, but all of my kids actually, to post pics of my darling grandkids and I with a quick click can store them in my computer. Now my daughter emails me pics too, and sends me videos of Sam, but it is honestly quicker and easier for me (I am technically challenged) to get them off of facebook. I have left all of my kids quick messages, comments and encouragements via facebook. Most people would probably text, or twitter the same things. But I have a hard time seeing on my little phone, and prefer typing a message out to texting it or typing it on a phone. Maybe I just need a fancier, nicer phone, haha. But I KNOW they will always get these messages as of course they work it all from their phones which they carry with them everywhere. If I was really modern I would too, but I think it would really take up too much of my life that way. So I stick to my lap top. It does require discipline though doesn't it to not spend TOO much time on any of these things....blogging, twittering, or facebooking?? I was kind of overwhelmed in Pinterest too, though I have found a couple of good recipes when I was looking for something specific that way. Bottom line? If it weren't for my children having facebook accounts, I am VERY certain I wouldn't either. But I stay connected with them every way I can, and this works great! Hope all is well with you Trisha...Enjoy your week-end!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to add that all of my adult children live quite a distance from one another and that is one of the main reasons they all love Facebook too. They post quick pics of their kids for each other as well as me. But they all text each other all the time more. I am out of the loop there. Maybe some day....haha
ReplyDeleteSuper cute bowl. Fun! I can't barely text message, but my hubby does with his work and our daughter. I need to get out of the '90's.
ReplyDeleteHa!
Happy "bowl"ing.
Love to you,
Jojo
You've almost convince me to join Twitter. :)
ReplyDeleteWith any technology, the question is am I using it or is it using me? But for all the bad hype, FB can be used for good. Since I don't text, it's a way of staying up to date with church folks during the week and sending out info. There's a group of sisters who share prayer requests with one another in a private group which has been a blessing. I'm also able to connect with extended family who live outside the US.
Yes, those are reasons I love Facebook! Although I don't get on there but about once a week or so. Just don't feel the need to be constantly connected, but being able to quickly catch up with loved ones (like today's news from a dear friend who's foster baby girl can now be adopted by them) is priceless. Adding Twitter to the mix was just too much for me to have to keep up with. To each his own and there is certainly nothing wrong with differing preferences. I still find this amusing about you because I just love you to pieces. You make me giggle, sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteFriends keep telling me I need to be on Facebook but I'm not interested. Not interested in "tweeting" either. Sometimes I think I'll close up my blog, too. But, Pinterest I find very inspiring. You get on for a while, find all kinds of cool creative things to do and make and...bliss! I spend more time doing creative artistic things instead of reading about what everyone is doing now. But, if you stopped blogging and I couldn't stay in touch with you and your littles....I'd be so sad. :O(
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sandy
Hi Trisha! I'm on twitter, but have never figured out how to use it. Hot and cold there...one week I'll post there a few times and then not again for weeks, lol. As for FB, I'm not there either...I'm intimidated and put off at the learning curve it will require of me, but know I will someday probably have to be there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bowl!
Oh, I nearly forgot...my Shaun is doing great!!! God is really taking care of him and he's getting so much better!! Thanks for all your prayers!

Trisha, the bowl is beautiful. What a nice thing to do from someone you have never met. Your blog is such a blessing.
