Thankful Thursday~Vacation Edition
In spite of a few unmet expectations on our vacation, we were never lacking for praise to the LORD. How great He is, and yet, He blesses us so generously in the details of life.
I'm thankful for the many gifts God showered on us during our week away:
1) His provision to even be able to take a trip like this.
2) Our van driving wonderfully and not needing repairs.
3) The wonder of our children as they experience things for the first time. I wish you could have heard Cap'n saying "river" over and over. :)
4) Cameras that took such great pictures.
5) Horseback riding, rafting, fly-fishing
6) Smores made late at night over the fire
7) Laughter
8) I didn't go into labor!!! What a mercy this was!!
9) Forgiveness
10) Enough...enough money, enough gas, enough food, enough fun...God always gives the perfect amount, even when we don't think so.
11) No mouse invasion of our home while we were gone! How wonderful not to see their droppings in the linen closet or their teeth marks on potato chip bags.
12) Our children's delight in the simplest of things.
13) Family worship
14) Insight into our children hearts. What and who do they love? What and who do they worship?
15) My Beloved's efforts in everything.
16) Discovering Blue Belle ice cream. It's my new craving...vanilla and dutch chocolate in a waffle cone! Yum!
17) Ink getting better just as we left for the trip. Antibiotics that worked perfectly!
18) Cap'n not having any side effects from the Borax/baking soda he ingested just days before we were leaving.
19) No car accidents or river accidents!
20) Seeing deer up close for the first time, right in the backyard of our vacation rental.
(Don't let the expression fool you. Luke loved his first experiences with fly-fishing. Guess what most of the books he's reading are about? :) And Daddy is just a bit thrilled to have a fly-fishing partner in the making.)
21) The washer and dryer and dishwasher that worked so well! I was washing at least two loads a day each of dishes and clothing. What a blessing these working appliances were.
22) The good health to serve my family and learn in each moment to die to self. The purging of "It's not all about me" from my veins. (This purging will go on until the day I die. I'm full of my Self.)
23) Several of us not getting sick until close to the end of the trip!
24) Hearing our children say it was good to be home, even though they had such a wonderful time away.
25) God's patience with me. How undone I would be if He gave me everything I deserve.
"To show forth all God's praise is to enter largely into the work. An occasional "God, I thank Thee," is no fit return for a perpetual stream of rich benefits."

Waugh! First to comment ... methinks that's never happened before ... Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteI love you!
DeleteOh, what wonderful pictures, and wonderful stories! So much to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteLove your thankful list, Trisha. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures, the children looked liked they were having a wonderful time.Wonderful memories to cherish
ReplyDeleteHow FUN!!! LOVE all these vacation posts and photos! Absolutely priceless, my friend!!! So glad y'all had such a good time, and thankful for y'all that you were able to see things how the kiddos see it...full of wonder and excitement and joy as they experienced a bunch of firsts. Yes, God has a way of overhauling us in those particular areas when we least think we need any tweaking! Ha! (Experiencing a bit of that today myself!) But oh how He always has our best interest at heart and praise His name when we see His goodness for what it is so quickly! I sure do miss those kiddos and their parents and it felt like you were gone for AGES! Soooooo enjoyed these photos and your thanksgiving (I grew up on Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate!), and I'm also encouraged by your honest heart as you worked out the heart stuff. Love you so much, friend!
ReplyDeleteLoving the pictures and stories!!
ReplyDeleteA question though, do your children not wear traditional swimsuits?
Thanks for sharing!!
Lisa
Hi Lisa! I hope all is well. No, our children don't wear traditional swimsuits. We find them to be too immodest. (Now you know that could stir up quite a controversy on it's own.) LOL! Glad you stopped by!
DeleteLove this post!!! :D
ReplyDeleteHi Trisha
ReplyDeleteI think you are smart to start them young with modest swimwear, because it only gets harder. I only have one daughter with 6 sons, and it is more of a chore to clothe the one girl than all those boys!!
You said you hoped all was well with us, with my immediate family; well, we are still waiting the judge's final decision as to whether we get to adopt our 15 month old foster baby. We have had this precious little guy since birth, and can't imagine life without him, so this has been a difficult time of waiting for us. Also this past week, my cousin lost her 15 year old son while vacationing at the family cottage. He drowned within 10 feet of his family. So, so sad, but we thankfully grieve with Hope, as he had recently spoke of his conversion and love for the Lord. I just thought I would share, because I believe you would pray for us. Love reading your posts and hearing about everyday things, but especially your love for God. I hope all is well with you and yours. Blessings, Lisa
Lisa,
DeletePlease forgive my delay in replying. I was out of town over the weekend with my Beloved. :)
I have been praying and will continue to do so! Please let me know when you hear something from the judge. (And my e-mail is on my About page if you prefer to contact me that way.) Also, my heart aches for you and your family in the death of your cousin's son. What a gift to grieve with hope! I know the days ahead will be hard for everyone, and I will be praying for strength from the LORD and overflowing mercy and peace and grace. Thank you for the privilege of praying for you about these concerns.
{hugs}
Love,
Trisha
Thank you for your kind words and prayers, Trisha!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the books and authors you talk about are the same as we read, and I wondered what denomination you are from. We are from a "dutch" reformed church, called The Free Reformed Church of North America. Have you ever heard of it?
Lisa
It looks like such a fun time!
ReplyDeleteHey.... love the pictures... looks like everyone had a great time on the vacation.. swimming in the river brings back memoriesof Craig Creek.....Love ya'll Grandma
