"The Sunflower"
Eagle of flowers! I see the stand,
And on the sun's noon-glory gaze;
With eye like his thy lids expand
And fringe their disk with golden rays;
Though fixed on earth, in darkness rooted there,
Light is thy element, thy dwelling air,
Thy prospect heaven.
~Montgomery
One of the delights of living here is the beautiful sunflower. Our roadways are lined with them this time of year, and you can't help but smile when you see them. Henry Ward Beecher observed that flowers "have an expression of countenance...some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest, and upright, like the broad-faced Sunflower..."
"The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell within."
Psalm 24:1

The other 2 pictures of the sunflowers came up this time. They are beautiful. Thank you, Ben.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflowers and these are beautiful. I bought a pretty sunflower plant this summer in full bloom but it died. I guess I watered it too much or not enough.
