My son did a fun post, "11 Things You Didn't Want to Know About Me." Here's my spin on that. Of course you want to know these things...because you can only feel better about yourself after reading them (or at least confirm your suspicions that I really am odd but you'd still love to have a cup of tea with me and sample chocolate together).
~I don't like talking on the phone, and I repeatedly fail to answer e-mails in a timely manner. I love writing letters, and I treasure one-on-one heartfelt, God-focused conversations with close friends.
~I'm the world's pickiest eater. Dinner invitations make me very nervous. I don't want to be rude and not eat what you've set before me. I know that's selfish. But I also don't want to vomit at the dinner table, and I truly might do that if you ask me to eat broccoli casserole. My close friends graciously accept my pickiness and stick with foods they know I'll eat or suggest we share in making the meal or that we eat out. They don't watch my plate or take my refusal to eat what they've made as commentary on their cooking. Oh, how I love those friends!
~When I was little, my Dad used to make me sit at the dinner table until I finished my food. It would be 9:00, and I'd still be sitting there. His tacos, though, and fried flounder were the best, and he never had to make me finish those.
~I was born with club feet and had to wear corrective bars on my legs when I was little. I would lie in my crib and just bang my feet against the wood over and over, screaming. My siblings couldn't stand to hear it and wanted my Mom to take the bars off. I'm glad she didn't, though! (There's a great parenting lesson here.)
~I love to cook. I know. I love making my family new foods, even though I won't eat those foods much of the time. And I do make my children try new things because I don't want them to be like I am.
~I'm an introvert. Social gatherings are not my thing. I don't enjoy church potlucks or large parties. I'm often perceived as standoffish or rude when really I'm just uncomfortable and awkward. That said, I fight constantly against this tendency (and fail over and over), recognizing how self-centered instead of others-centered it can be.
~If you correct my grammar while I'm speaking to you or use an incredulous tone in response to a question I've asked you, we probably won't have many deep conversations in the future. (unless you're my child. :))
~I talk to people when I'm driving. I know they can't hear me, but I still say things like, "Why would you pull out in front of me when I'm driving 60 mph, and you're only going 30? Are you crazy!?" I'm working on this. I really am.
~I struggle with laziness, and I'm the queen of good intentions. I wish I had more to show for the years I've been alive (as Sara Groves puts it). I often make great plans but have very poor follow-through.
~If I could change some things about me, I'd have pretty feet, a willingness to try new foods, brains and wisdom like Cindy at Dominion Family or Persis at Tried With Fire, and a heart that loves as unselfishly as my Pastor's. (Thankfully, by God's grace, there's still hope for the last one.)
~I am terrified of mice. Terrified.
~I hated school and dreaded going almost every day. I suffered with severe test anxiety, was beat up, and endured endless mocking. When I was graduated, I felt like a bird released from its cage. There's no doubt in my mind I would be a very different person today if I had been homeschooled.
~I take a nap almost every day. That's because I stay up late with my older boys and get up early with my Beloved.
~I'm not on Facebook, and I'm annoyed by the assumption that everyone is..."Did you see so and so's post on FB?" "Oh, that's right. You're not on FB." I'm thinking I'll be on FB the day I become an extrovert.
~I love salty french fries dipped in a Wendy's Frosty.
~I have some book sense but not a lot of common sense.
~I'm the last person I would have picked to be a Mom, and I LOVE being a Mom. Every day I'm in awe of God's mercy in giving us children because there are so many things I don't get right. I am proof that God's grace is what you need most as a parent.
All of that said, I love the truth that nothing is impossible with God, and that what's true about me today might not be tomorrow.
And I'm not counting this one because I hope it's something you already know about me. I'm continuously amazed at your gracious words. I'm deeply thankful for every one of you! You show me God's grace every time I post. Thank you for sharpening me, praying for me, laughing and crying with me, and encouraging me.
With love,

Trisha,
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Thanks for sharing. I find it funny that you are not a large gather type of person, me too! Also, I love your Wendy's choice- some great date nights have been set around that combo - we both like it - and so does our daughter =o]
How fun!
ReplyDeleteThis almost could have been my list, except that when my dad tried to cure my picky eating by making me sit at the table and finish I actually DID throw up on the table and that was the end of that. From then on, when I said I didn't like it I was free to go make myself a sandwich.
Well, we have some things in common in that I hated school and was also mocked terribly, not beat up though. I also don't like large gatherings and am an introvert. I love being a mom and consider it the greatest blessing in my life! I love all food, so no picky eater here. But I also talk to people while I'm driving! I would love to sit down and have a cup of tea and some chocolate with you, sweet friend.Praying you and yours are well and in peace.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sandy
I loved reading this list of things about you, Trisha. I think we would get along just fine as real life friends, picky-eater introverts that we are! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post to read!
ReplyDeleteTrisha, please check out my post today as I wrote it with you specifically in mind. It is not deep or life-changing but it may be helpful.
I love your list, Trisha!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried fries and a frosty, but I have been know to have chips on the side with ice cream.
So you're human after all? I'm so disappointed! Ha! I can defnitely relate to being an introvert although I do much better than I used to. I am by no means outgoing, but I am no longer fearful and shy and I am much more wlling to get my mind off myself and participate. It's not always easy. I am such a homebody!! Enjoyed this post! I'm going to hop over and read your son's.
ReplyDeleteI remember the pickiness..and the Chef Boyardee half baked pizzas.
ReplyDeleteLove ya
Mel
JoJo,
ReplyDeleteYay! Another fellow frosty and fries lover. :) I'm beginning to wonder if most bloggers are really introverts. HA!
Jessica,
Wow...we're that much alike? I'm always happy to meet another picky eater. We'd have fun having dinner together. :)
Sandy,
Oh, I'd love to have tea and chocolate with you, my friend. :)
Lisa,
Yes, I think we'd get along very well. Another picky eater? It's so comforting to know I'm not alone. LOL
Susan,
Thank you. That was a great tutorial!
Persis,
Yes, that sweet and salty is so addictive. Chips and ice cream will do. :)
Stephani,
Yes, I am so, so human!! :)
Mel,
Well, I didn't think those Chef Boyardee pizzas were half-baked. :) HA! That parmesan cheese smell always drove my Dad crazy. Love you, too!
Trisha, This was way cool! I AM glad to know these things--I finally found the other person who is not on Facebook!
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like lots of us have a love for Wendy's Frosty and fries. It's interesting that you're the world's pickiest eater because I held that title as a child. Now, I'm just a little picky ;-D
Gotta run--I've got a batch of your Slow Cooker Sticky chicken in the crock pot for dinner! So glad to "know" you through this blog.
Haha I had to laugh at your fries & Wendy's knowing how picky you are. You are ALWAYS welcome at my table, and I promise I will NEVER make you eat anything you don't want - why?? Because that would leave more of it for me!!! I am still looking forward to cards, and I wish you had said that you are a friend that understands how busy life can be. You are a friend that will pick right up where we left off knowing that it may be months between visits again. That's not a common trait these days, but it is one I so appreciate !!
ReplyDeleteCharlene,
ReplyDeleteI hope that sticky chicken turned out great! Love to you!
Prairie Momma,
You've always been most accommodating with my pickiness, my friend! I've never worried about my plate being under inspection at your house. And yes, cards and good food very soon. I love you!
We have a few things in common. I hate potlucks, because I'm such a picky eater and I hate crowds. I love to cook different foods, but I'm not good at trying them. Several people will watch to see what I eat, which makes me very self-conscious. My parents used to make me sit at the table until I ate all my food and I sat and still didn't eat. I was great at holding out the longest. lol I hated school too and would have loved to been homeschooled.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
What a fun list! I really am so glad to know (almost) all of this about you! :D
ReplyDeleteLove you!
CG
As I was reading this I was thinking how much this could be me-although I am more extroverted than introverted (just depends on the situation) I too endured sitting a the table for hours after every one else had left, starring at my cold food. Funny thing now is I hate cold food so I am usually the first one finished because I eat too quickly. What I eat at Wendy's along with a salad-ha!
ReplyDeleteI don't like pot lucks that much because I am weird about knowing how people have fixed their food and so I don't care to eat a bunch of stuff I have no idea who made it. :)
I disliked school but not until Jr High. I never fit it, wasn't in the cool group but wasn't a smart nerd either so I plugged along always feeling like I wasn't good enough. I too think I would be a different person today had I been HS-but God still taught me many things through it all-one being compassion for others, especially when I am somewhere and someone doesn't quite fit in.
Love you-love getting to know you more this way-adult pen pals. :) I would love to sit down and have tea and chocolate-I will bring the chocolate. :)
Happy Tuesday my friend.
Love you
It is so fun to get to "know" you a little better! :) Through your blog, I would have NEVER guessed some of these things! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. That was so fun to read! I never would have thought you to be picky. Not sure what I thought come to think of it :-)
ReplyDeleteAmen to being a Mama. God's grace shining through those kiddos every single day!
~Cinnamon
You silly girl, you are every bit as smart as I am and I bet you could correct my grammar. Also we have a lot in common.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading that! Thanks for taking the time to post it.
ReplyDeleteThat just made me love you even more! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love fries and frosty...and I was tortured in high school by one really mean girl. The thoughts of high school make me sick.
We really have alot in common...although I'm not a picky eater and one of my very best dishes is broccoli casserole!
I sent you an email a while back about looking at InkSlingers blog. Later, I realized I sent it to myself. Go figure. I was praising that awesome young man and praying God's grace takes my little man there one day.
Thank you for sharing these awesome things!
Thanks for the wonderful post. Sure
ReplyDeletebrings back a lot of memories. I
always got so upset when your dad
made you sit at the table for ages.So glad God blessed us with
such a special daughter.
Lov you.
