I'm thankful for a husband who says, upon seeing his littlest girl in her Sunday burgundy velvet dress, "You're going to grow up to look just like your Mama. And that's going to mean trouble."
(That's a compliment, in case you're wondering. :))
He didn't say, "You'll look like your Mama when she was younger and thinner and prettier. She's really gone downhill now." He's speaking of NOW, and that's amazing to me.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Too often we women worry about the lines and the pounds and the effects of gravity (I do!). We measure ourselves by airbrushed images instead of by the Word of God, which already tells us that physical beauty is vain and fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.
Christ in us makes us more beautiful than botox or laser surgery or a million dollars worth of face creams. What a treasure it is to have husbands who know this and see this and tell us!
"Beauty recommends none to God, nor is it any proof of wisdom and goodness, but it has deceived many a man who made his choice of wife by it. But the fear of God, reigning in the heart, is the beauty of the soul; it lasts for ever."
~Matthew Henry

Priceless!

What a fabulous quote! That is going in my commonplace book today! Sometimes...ok, a lot of times it's hard to keep the right perspective and focus on our character and personal relationship with God rather than our outward appearance and how the world sees us. "Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised." Thank you for the encouraging reminder. <3
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quote! Its so hard sometimes to remember that we don't need to be a size 4 to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful sweet friend, both inside and out. She will be one blessed little girl if she grows up to be the beautiful godly women like her mama.
ReplyDeleteI too am so thankful that even though 17 years has brought with 18 has brought with it, wrinkles and fine lines and 30 pounds and everything else that comes with being 40-ha! Mike still seems me as 25, skinny and pretty in his eyes. I am so thankful for that too.
Great news on my sister-I need to write a post about it, I just haven't had time. But her PET scan showed two canercous tumors and when they removed them it was just one, the Dr. told her that she would come back in a week in a half after the biopsy to discuss her stage of cancer and either chemo or radiation or both. Trisha, she went and they sat down and the Dr. told her that they didn't understand it because the tumors went from two to one and radiated, but they WERE NOT CANCER!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!! Thank you for praying for her. I am so thankful to everyone who lifted my sister up before God.
I am so excited I can't keep from wanting to tell everyone I see.
Love you friend. Hugs
Jill
Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Trisha. Too many women are chasing a vapor by believing the world instead of the Word. I know. I work for a plastic surgery practice. :0
ReplyDeleteYou always have the encouraging word that I need to hear...Love you and miss you and your family. I look at the pictures you post and I don't even know the last three children :(

What a beautiful little girl you have.
ReplyDeleteThat quote from Matthew Henry is wonderful. Proverbs 31:30 is one of my favorite verses because it reminds us inward beauty, found only in Christ, is what really matters and where true beauty is found. Much love to you, Trisha!
