Notes From Home

~Every time I sit down to write a post, I can't seem to put the words together. I know what I want to say, but I'm a bit at a loss for how to say it. And most of all, I'm not even sure I need to be saying any of it. Maybe every blogger has those times when you think you should pack up your stuff and go. You've said enough.

But this is my family blog, too. It's where I capture those memories that I love looking back on later. That seems to be the hardest thing to walk away from. I'm not sure I'd have the discipline to scrapbook my life like I do on my blog.

Time isn't an issue. My priorities are in order. My Beloved isn't telling me to quit. My Ink Slinger would tell me not to quit. So, I'll keep thinking on this one. If you have insight, I'd love to hear it. :)

~I can't wait to share with you about God's provision for me during my jury duty. It's not that I didn't want to serve, but being pregnant and having my Crohn's active presented quite a challenge. I'm so thankful for a merciful God who never forgets us even when we forget He hasn't forgotten us.

~Cap'n had his first haircut today. After battling a metal chair and losing (see bruise on forehead), he wasn't pleased to be told he was losing hair, too. He's such a serious little guy, and now he looks like a serious little man.

~I've made some yummy recipes lately and hope to post those, too: Homemade applesauce, a brown sugar chicken rub, five cheese toast, raspberry chipotle sauce cream cheese dip, cakey brownies, and and honey-garlic pork chops. Emma has been in the kitchen, too, and made some delicious homemade tomato soup yesterday. Mountain Man, who has been home sick all week, found it most comforting.

~Cap'n has his moments when he prefers Jake (Little Big Man) over me. Can you believe it? Ink, with great wisdom, tells me "it's time to start letting go." HA!

~I've used a baby doppler since I was pregnant with Miss Ella. They're worth every penny of the rental fee, and I'm in awe every time I hear that precious, precious heartbeat! Tomorrow I see my perinatologist for the first time during this pregnancy. I'll spend an hour hearing about the many risks of being pregnant at my age, and then I'll get to see this wee one on the big screen. :) Hopefully, I'll have an amazing picture to share with you.

~I've just finished George Grant's The Micah Mandate, and I loved it! I'm reading John Flavel's The Mystery of Providence with tissues in hand , and the margins are already full of "Amen" and "Yes!".

~I'm tackling Jonathan Edwards Charity and Its Fruits with the sad realization that I think I know almost nothing about Christian love.

~And it's official. I'm old. How do I know this? I don't like some of the music my oldest sons like. I never thought I'd see the day. :)

Much love,
Trisha

  1. If you are old, so am I!! How fun to be in the same boat as you my friend. :)

Cutie pie...that little Cap'n! All grown up with that big boy haircut...too sweet.

So glad that that LORD gave you all you needed as you fulfilled your obligation to jury duty.

And...NO....PLEEAAASE don't stop blogging! Take a break if need be, but don't stop!!!!!!!! (My humbly submitted opinion). :)

    Love to you!

  3. Please don't ever leave-not that it is about me but I would be so sad not to see your sweet pictures on here and read your wise words or wisdom and your precious comments to me. I would miss you greatly. I can't wait to see the sweet pictures of your newest blessing too. I have been worried since you hadn't blogged in a few days. Praying all is well.
    Love you sweet friend.

  4. Of course we would miss you greatly if you stopped blogging. But I can hardly tell you to keep it up, the slacker that I have become. I can't wait to hear how the little papoose is growing!

As long as you are doing ok, we are good with that!

  5. I would miss you an awful lot if you quit blogging. Sometimes we need a break and that's fine, but if God is telling you to quit, then you need to.

I think I've figured out which brother was trying to get Cap'n in trouble....lol

I can't wait to see pictures of the new baby. You should go into the appointment and spend an hour telling the doctor everything about being pregnant at your age(you're not old), instead of him telling you. He might think twice about trying that on other women in the same position as you.

  6. Ive recently found you, and love you, please dont' stop. Anyhow, just how old are you? I'm guessing no older than me. I have an 18 year old, and a 10 month old and five more inbetween. So, how old are you? :):)

  7. Camille,
You're younger than I am, but I'll be ok with being your big sister. :) I love you!

    Jill,
Oh, my friend, I appreciate you. Thank you for watching out for me and praying for me. I love you.

    Ashleigh,
I can't wait to tell you how baby is doing. I can't believe I'm past 12 weeks now. Yay!!

    Momof3girls,
I wish it was that clear to me. LOL. I don't think it's a "God is telling you to stop." I just don't know. :) Thanks for delighting in this blessing and for your good words.

    Lisa,
It's great to hear from you. I wish I could e-mail you privately. I hate to reveal my age. It forces me to face reality. :) HA! I'm a 42 year old who thinks she's 36. LOL! Blessings to you!

  9. I would miss your posts, Trisha, but I fully understand. Sometimes it seems pointless. But perhaps don't delete you blog and join me in just posting every now and then when something is either worthwhile or pressing you to be written. I am okay with that now and how totally shaken the desire for more readers. That always having to come up with an inspiring post is draining.
Always love your insights and you have a lovely family.

  10. Been thinking about you...praying for you when the Lord brings you to mind. This has been such a busy season for me. I don't want to miss a moment of Samantha, so I haven't been good about blogging lately. But I do peek in here to check on you...:).

42 is not old:). That is how old I will be in April!42 is the new 20 (keep telling myself that:)).

    Blessings and joy!

  11. Oh, Trisha, if you stopped blogging, I would miss it terribly. This is how I've gotten better acquainted with my dear cousins in New Mexico, and its been invaluable to me! I can't wait to see pictures of your newest blessing!
    Love,
    Cousin Patty

  12. Don't stop. Just do it when you can and don't worry when there is silence. There are seasons with everything, right? If you are to stop completely, you will know. Ugh. No wisdom for jury duty. I will pray right now though.

  13. We all have moments where we need to take a break from blogging. I did it last year when my hubby came home from Afghanistan. Your little one getting his haircut is so sweet. The recipes sound good! Hope you're having a nice day!

  14. Cap'n does look like such a serious little man. I have one of those!

How wonderful that you have a doppler, although, I'd probably drive myself crazy with it!

  15. I can relate to your first item. Lately I don't have the time or the mental energy to put my thoughts together.

If my daughter tells me I'm not old, then you certainly aren't!

Please share your recipes, they sound delicious.

  16. Trisha - you are so funny! I think you're allowed to tell the Dr that you've done this before - haha!!

I love my dr as she knows me and just lets nature take it's course. What a blessing God has given me in her.

How awesome to hear little dumplings heartbeat. That never gets old - ever!

Cap 'n looks wonderful, even sporting that nasty bruise.

I can't wait to see pregnant pictures of you. I bet you will just glow!

That Cap'n is adorable, you know they are getting big when they get that first haircut

And just for the record...42 is not old :)

So glad everything is going well can't wait to see baby pictures

  18. 1) Your little man is just too cute! I love serious, as most of mine are stoic for pictures as babies and toddlers..well and even kids..

    2) I hear you on the blogging. I just posted that I am breaking for a while, maybe forever. I have to wait and see if it is God, or just burnout..or if they are one in the same!

    3) Recipes sound great!

    4) I am so thankful your baby is doing well! Risks, ha! Let God handle the risks, and the benefits! :)

    5) Christian love..yes! I have so much room to grow!

Old..ah, yes, these realizations come in small ways..like a teenage driver for me...and grey hair...and feeling pregnancy more than even 3 years ago...etc.

However, God is good all the time, and it is well with my soul!

    God Bless you!

  19. Blessed by your openness and transparency, Trisha. Having just returned from my little internet hiatus, I mulled over shutting my blog altogether a few times myself and ultimately decided against it.

After some prayerful consideration, I've come to a couple of guiding principles: (1) Go online with a purpose. For example, I purposed tonight to visit you and a couple of other people. Afterwards, I am shutting down (2) Blog with a purpose. If you have something to say, say it. If not, don't say something just for the sake of saying something. It doesn't do anyone any good and just adds more clutter. Not that you ever do, by the way! :) (3) Even if you have a purpose, and even if you have something to say, if you are feeling like you need to read your Bible, pray, or do something else important -- do that instead.

So, there's my 2 cents. :) I don't think you should stop blogging. Lord knows, I'd miss you! :) But that is ultimately between you and God.

Love you dearly sister and always blessed by your heart!

  20. Oh Trisha, I do understand but would miss you so. I think I enjoy your family's online "scrapbook" just as much as you do! Love to see how our family has grown, is growing, and even your "mundane" posts have encouraged me as a mom. I second everything Christina said and I would also suggest that you hold off on any permanent decisions until after this little babe is born. Due to hormones (and getting older--I'm a 40 yo who thinks she's 30!) we sometimes develop odd feelings about things that may change after babe is born. I know for me, when I am pregnant, I go into a mode where I want to throw everything out or rearrange everything and it feels urgent. Just nesting, I think, but it can get very strong at times. If need be, step back from blogging for awhile but please don't bid us farewell just yet! Love ya!

  21. i think there is definitely a time for everything... ;)

it was definitely a time not to blog for me over the past year, but i didn't abandon the idea of continuing altogether... in the right time.

i'm feeling that the time for me has come again. i feel like the Lord is giving me words again. for so long i just didn't know what i would say...

my only advice: follow His lead

love to you, my dear :)

  22. Hi Trisha, well 42 is definitely not old!! I will be 39 tomorrow, and I didn't think you looked any older than me. I'd love to see some pregnancy pictures, I'm sure you are just glowing!! I would love to have more children, (even though I'm told by some that I am too old for that now, and that I should be happy with the 6 I have) Medically I can't have more, but we are in the middle of adopting our precious 10 month old foster baby!
    Blessings
    Lisa
