Thankful Thursday~How the Camera Saves Lives

The camera saves lives. Yes, the insane experienced Mama has learned that instead of getting exasperated by those disasters pesky messes that happen during the most ordinary of days, it's better to just throw a tantrum grab your camera.

Camera-hugging is therapeutic. It calms the spirit and reminds the already brain dead exhausted Mama that these moments of chaos are ones to be fully embraced and remembered. And what better way to do that than with one's camera! After all, this way EVERYONE can savor the moment and re-live the delight, saying, "Oh, I wish I could have been there to  watch her  clean up."

So, next time you have one of these moments of pure JOY, grab your camera, smile big, tell your other children, "It's ok," and let them think you've lost your mind...or perhaps just gained a more gentle and quiet spirit that knows one should never cry over flying cornstarch.

The Adventure

The Adventurer when brought before Queen Mama by shocked siblings.

What kind of place is this anyway?
Shouldn't someone have been watching him?

Close-up of Adventurer's distress. Melt my heart. How could I be upset?

After reprieve, the Adventurer returns to the scene of said adventure.

His final thoughts before clean-up: "Something's wrong. They're just letting me play in this mess. Hmm, it just doesn't seem as fun anymore."

Truly, I'm thankful for having matured just a bit over these 16 years as a Mama to be able to laugh at moments like this, knowing one day I'll wish I had a baby who makes mischief in the cornstarch.

I'm thankful my children teach me daily to relax and not sweat the small stuff, or rather, the cornstarch. But, oh, I'm a slow learner!

I'm thankful God didn't give me children because I'm so qualified or deserving, but  because He's gracious and kind and merciful.

I'm thankful for moments like this that make me praise the LORD for His many mercies to me.

I'm thankful that our adventures might bring a smile to your face and remind you how beautiful life is and how good God is.

"Grateful love is the true spring of real obedience to Christ."

  5. LOL! You realize I can giggle over this since it isn't my mess-(smile) at least there wasn't egg mixed in with it right? hehe
Alyssa did that with my makeup once and it was all over her face and clothes and everywhere. That is what I did too-I thought these will make great memories to scrapbook one day. :)
Poor baby-I was thinking the same thing-I bet that cornstarch didn't taste so yummy, to bad isn' wasn't powdered sugar. :) The one photo of him sitting in the middle of it all looking over his shoulder cracked me up-I am glad he had a little fun-sorry you had the mess to clean up, but what a great attitude you had about it all. I need to stop and remember that one day too. My little one drew eyes and a smile to make a smiley face on our tan sofa the other day-I noticed it when I finally sat down that night. I need to take photos of it too-one day I will miss that I know, one day too soon.
    Love you

  7. HAHA..this was great! I think all of us mama's have been there. I mellowed out as I went along too. With my first I became soo hysterical (poor guy) but by my fourth I was laughing and taking pictures. I have one of her where she had gotten the comet I was using to clean the toilets. I had rushed to answer the phone and left it sitting on the floor by the toilet. She grabbed it and shook it EVERYWHERE in that bathroom... I have a picture of her trying to sweep it all under the bathroom rug...it was hilarious (though it did take me a good hour to clean it all up!) We still pull that picture out and laugh. Have a good day Trisha! HUGS

  8. Oh I am laughing........I learned camera therapy with number 5. Now numbers 1-4 didn't understand my amusement when I took a picture of our car after he had colored all over it...they said I wouldn't have done that with them!

Now I look back and miss all those pictures...yes like this one of yours...when #4 decided to make home made bread at about this age, while I was home schooling the other three.

Great, great...they grow up too fast..enjoy, laugh and then get a broom.

  9. Loved your post, Trisha. I agree with Ma because I don't think corn starch tastes very good.

  10. Ha!!! LOVE it! Oh how PRECIOUS!!! Priceless photos you'll get to cherish for a lifetime because you didn't lose your cool in the hot moment. Way to go, little mama! It's a priceless treasure to be able to take the difficult moments and turn them into an instant memory. God has wised you up real good and I'm glad to get to glean from your wisdom as a mama. Love you, friend!

  12. That is too funny! He looked quite afraid of his fate! How many of the older kids said "If I had done it, she wouldn't have smile at me!" Oh to be little & cute! ~ Ashleigh

  13. Trisha,
I love this post, your attitude and I have been browzing for that quote for the last year. Did you repost it? Was it on your blog I read it? I tried to restate it several times and butchered it several times.
Who you are is a blessing! Thank you.
    Have a great day!

Sometimes (read: Yesterday) You just wish that you had the video/film rolling when a disaster happens.

  16. You are so right that we take a while before we can laugh at such 'calamities'. With #4, I am so much more chilled.... and regret I didn't laugh more with the others. Anyway, I'm thankful I still have the other 3 with me, and now that they're teenagers, we laugh and laugh together all the time. They will remember that.... that's what I tell myself when I realize by the end of the day that we didn't get much of our 'to-do' list done. All in all, memories are more precious (though lessons are useful too ;)
