The View from Telluride and Why You Should Savor Every Moment

It's hard to believe almost four weeks ago we were celebrating our anniversary in the beautiful town of Telluride, CO. Not only were we rejoicing over 24 years of marriage, but we were delighted with the news of another baby on the way.

How quickly things change.

Here's the Lodge Headquarters

Our kitchenette

Living area which included a gas fireplace and a balcony with breathtaking mountain views

We arrived to clouds and rain and SNOW on the mountain!

BUT, I will tell you the BEST lesson I learned from my time away with my Beloved.  Savor every moment. Enjoy it for what it is. Don't let fears of what might happen tomorrow or what God might plan for you in the future rob you of enjoying the present moment He's given you.

Even with my history of miscarriages (this was our fourth), we still celebrated as though this baby would arrive as hoped for. We talked about baby names and how we'd tell our children. We praised God and reflected on this humbling gift. We didn't let fear or worry rob us of the blessing God had given us, even though it would end up only being for a short time.

How much of our lives do we spend worrying about what is never in our control to begin with......namely that day called tomorrow? I can't imagine my sorrow if I had wasted away this precious time with my Beloved, allowing fear and anxiety and borrowed trouble to strangle away the good gifts of the present.

I'm not speaking of reckless living, with no thought of eternity. I'm speaking of intentionally delighting in every good gift God has given us, in the moment He's bestowed it.

After the initial rainy day, this was the view that greeted us the next morning

Oh, how these golden hues made my heart happy!

The "gondola", as it was called, was our main mode of transportation. As we hovered over the gorgeous landscape, all I could think of was how majestic and great our Creator is.

This is the little bridge we'd walk over every day as we explored the area.

In the town of Telluride we enjoyed these mini donuts made by a street vendor.

Don't do what we did and forget your tripod on a romantic getaway!! This picture would have been much better with my Beloved by my side.

These were the views from one of the overlooks.

This is looking down on the town of Telluride. Our lodge was a couple thousand feet above it.

The view from the gondola station.

I have to say this place had the best "do not disturb" signs I've ever seen. :)

We spied this cabin as we were leaving the area. I think I could sacrifice and live nestled away in this spot, even though it would mean LOTS of snow in the winter.

And isn't this glorious? Snow capped mountains and fall foliage? Only our God could create something so magnificent.

As my heart and brain are still struggling to wrap themselves around Michele's home-going (it still doesn't seem real), I think of how I enjoyed those nine days with her in Utah. Even though we lived in the midst of her endless medicine bottles and doctor's appointments and all of her physical problems, we savored every moment! We shopped and ate and laughed and cried. Oh, I have not one regret, and I count those days as such a special gift from the LORD.

Isn't God kind to give us the multitude of daily mercies that make our lives a canvas of His grace? Enjoying them and praising Him for them while we have them is just one way of tasting and seeing that He is good. And even in the loss and sadness and grief, I cling to the hope, knowledge, and mercies that declare the truth that just as God takes, He also gives, and does so most abundantly.

With love,

  2. Beautiful post. And, yes, we should 'intentionally delight' in the present. What needless time we do waste worrying about the tomorrows...

  5. What a beautiful place! I hope to one day visit Colorado...the mountains are so very different then these Tennessee Hills...(although ours are splendid as well!)

Your post made me very teary-eyed. To think of your rejoicing and embracing the moment you were in.

Don't let fears of what might happen tomorrow or what God might plan for you in the future rob you of enjoying the present moment He's given you.

You know, Trisha...I do this every.single.day. I have this journey that I am walking with these little ones and I am so concerned about tomorrow that I forget to enjoy them today. There is always..."well, when this is done then we can ______" I fret going to and fro always on the move and never seeming to make ground...as Solomon said, it is all vanity. I waste away my time on the temporal future and if I would just enjoy the moment He has given me...I would invest so much more on the eternal future. God has given me this time at home with my little children...yet I DO let fear and worry rob me of enjoying my blessings!

Praying that you are enjoying your moments and blessings today! (Mine are calling from their rooms so I must go...) Much love to you!

    Michelle

  8. What beautiful photos. Oh so pretty and I felt like I was there with you (lol-not too romantic that way :) I could have been your tripod though. ha!)
I too have had at least 4 times where God has really shown me how important living in today and thanking Him for the blessings He has given me daily and how fast life passes.
I am glad that God allowed you beautiful weather and wonderful memories with your sweetheart. Still praying for the heartache you are experiencing currently on this journey called life. I love you and will pray that your mind will be flooded with happy memories of Michelle today. :)
    Love you-Hugs

  9. Thank you, Trisha. I really needed to read this today - after spending I night worrying about something that only might be, and that I can't control.
These pictures are so beautiful! I'm so glad you were able to enjoy God's magnificent creation.

  10. I think you have shared some real truths here and something we have all been guilty of for sure at one time or another. Worrying NEVER accomplishes anything but fear and other negative emotions. But it also robs of us our present joy. My daughter who just had her baby began her pregnancy drenched in fear as she has had soo many female issues. And I can remember telling her this very thing. ENJOY SAVOR DWELL REFLECT AND DELIGHT in every moment of this pregnancy even if you were to lose the baby. They are the moments He has given you right now....don't rob yourself of them....rejoice. Your pictures are just GORGEOUS...seriously like post cards. I have thought that many times when I look at your pictures. Soo beautiful. What kind of camera do you have?? You looked soo cute in that pic... : ) Still praying for you all....HUGS

  11. Thank you Trisha for sharing these
    absolutely beautiful examples of
    our Father's creation! Enjoyed them
    so much.
You are so right in saying that we
have to live in the present. Worry
and fear about tomorrow only causes
pain of all kinds. And what we worry
about may never come to pass anyway.
    Love,
    Sandy

  13. Thank you so much for this post, Mrs. P!!! I really needed to be reminded of this. I tend to live looking forward to future events instead of just slowing down and 'smelling the roses'. I practically raced through my young adult life, eager to become 'grown up'. and all for what? Granted lots comes with term, but I wish I had just savored my younger years. I can't go back, but sometimes I wish I could!
Off to enjoy savoring the moment of making breakfast, love you all! Sarah

  15. Words of wisdom from beginning to end...thanks.

Oh Colorado is so beautiful...my son spent a week there this past summer...I have been wanting to go for years...maybe some day.

Thanks for the reminder...it is so easy to get caught up in the "what ifs"

  16. What a superb holiday destination! What gorgeous pictures! Wow, what a blessing to spend time there marvelling at HIS goodness!!
Thank you for the good reminder to make the most of NOW rather than worrying about tomorrow - it is a reminder I need *often*.
The Lord bless you, my friend. I am glad you have beautiful memories to cherish and cling to.

  17. Such beautiful photos.
So sorry to hear of your losses. The Lord knows. One of my children always corrects me when I state my number of children and says "But there are two more in heaven". You now have another little one with the Lord. It doesn't take away the pain but it does give hope.

  18. Trisha, the pictures are glorious, and I so needed to read your post today. I've been spending too much time fretting about tomorrow since we learned that Clyde's cancer is growing again. Thanks for the reminder to enjoy every moment in the present!

  20. "...intentionally delighting in every good gift God has given us, in the moment He's bestowed it." Amen, my dear Trisha!

Breathtaking photos. They remind me of Tirol, it was my mom's favorite place in the world (besides Vienna), and our yearly vacation spot. I love the mountains and you too.

    Thinking of you prayerfully!

  21. Those are beautiful pictures. The one of you and your husband separately were good too! Do you have a timer on your camera so you can set it and then run and get in place? We do that when we are away and my husband is always laughing at me as I run, quickly, to get over to him before the picture is taken :-)

I love the peacefulness during your trials. You are a blessing~
